Speakers Bureau

What Is the Speakers Bureau?

The Cybersecurity Community Ambassadors Speakers Bureau is a network of Community Ambassadors who volunteer to deliver cybersecurity awareness talks to the public. Speakers present at libraries, schools, senior centers, nonprofits, local events, and community organizations to help people stay safe online.

Become a Speaker

Communities across Iowa are looking for trusted professionals who can help them better understand today’s technology—without jargon, sales pitches, or fear-based messaging.

The Speakers Bureau connects working professionals with opportunities to speak to community groups, schools, small organizations, and local governments about cybersecurity, computing, and artificial intelligence.

If you are willing to give one or two talks per year, we invite you to apply.

We are seeking practicing professionals, including:

  • Cybersecurity and IT professionals
  • Network and systems administrators
  • Technology professionals in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, finance, education, utilities, or government
  • Public-sector IT staff at the city, county, school, or state level

You do not need to be a professional speaker—just comfortable explaining technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Speakers select one or two areas based on their experience:
Cybersecurity & Privacy

Online safety, scams, passwords, MFA, data protection, privacy, and digital trust—for individuals and organizations.

Optional: Cybersecurity Literacy Speaker Certification

Speakers in the Speakers Bureau may choose to complete an optional Cybersecurity Literacy Speaker Certification.

This short training helps ensure speakers are prepared to communicate cybersecurity and technology topics clearly, accurately, and appropriately for community audiences.

The certification:

  • Requires approximately 4 hours of training
  • Focuses on communicating with non-technical audiences
  • Emphasizes plain language, practical guidance, and trusted public resources
  • Aligns with the Iowa Cyber Hub’s community education mission

Certified speakers may be highlighted on the website and may be invited to participate in additional community engagement opportunities.
